Research interests:
John has active programmes of research into ocular infections (principally keratitis) and inflammatory diseases of the anterior segment (particularly mucous membrane pemphigoid and allergic eye disease). These studies utilize epidemiological, clinical and laboratory techniques and I currently have a research optometrist and a PhD student in my research group working in these fields.
In addition, he supervises clinical research into corneal transplant surgery and ocular surface disease with several of the junior staff and colleagues at Moorfields and with other collaborators.
More than 200 publications (150 peer reviewed) including 18 chapters and one book have resulted from this work
