Moorfields achieves nursing Pathway to Excellence

Moorfields Eye Hospital awarded prestigious Pathway to Excellence accreditation. 

After three years of hard work from nursing teams and colleagues across the trust, Moorfields Eye Hospital has been successfully awarded this global accreditation by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) and is now a Pathway Designated organisation.

Awarding the trust its accreditation, Nora Warshawsky, Commissioner of the Pathway to Excellence Programme, said:

“Congratulations to the Moorfields Eye Hospital nursing team on earning the Pathway to Excellence credential! Creating organisational cultures that support professional nursing practice and the wellbeing of nurses is challenging under ideal circumstances. The nursing team is to be commended for embarking on the journey, especially during a pandemic.

“The Pathway to Excellence credential recognises nursing excellence and I am confident that Moorfields Eye Hospital nurses have rebounded from the pandemic stronger because of this pursuit of excellence.”

Enhancing clinical practice

Taking part in the Pathway programme has enhanced nursing and clinical practice across the trust for nurses, and all staff, providing positive benefits to our patients.

“I am thrilled to announce this news on International Nurses Day,” says Sheila Adam, chief nurse and director of allied health professionals.

“Thanks to the dedication in embedding the Pathway standards across the trust, we are now one of only six trusts in the UK to have achieved this accolade – a reflection of the care and commitment our nursing teams deliver every day.”

A centre of excellence  

Moorfields was one of only 14 trusts in the UK chosen to take part in the Pathway to Excellence programme, which is built around six standards: health and wellbeing, quality, safety, professional development, and leadership, enabling nurses to have a greater voice in their workplace to build positive practise environments.

Securing accreditation will also aid the trust’s recruitment and retention programme, enhance the career development opportunities of the nursing team, and build on Moorfields reputation as a centre of excellence.
