Moorfields Eye Centre at Northwick Park gets very positive report from CQC

Moorfields Eye Centre at Northwick Park has received a highly positive review from the Care Quality Commission (CQC) following a routine unannounced inspection by a team of their compliance inspectors.

The CQC inspectors judged that the six essential standards they evaluate had all been met. To ensure the services were all compliant, the inspectors look for evidence of:  respecting and involving people; care and welfare of people; supporting workers; and safeguarding people. They also examine the complaints service and the safety and suitability of premises.

The report stated that patients who used the service were satisfied with the care they received, said that they had been given information about their treatment and found the staff  were helpful.  One patient said staff: “were thorough, checked everything” and “spoke highly of the care they received” during the on-the-spot inspection of Moorfields’ at Northwick Park.  Others said that staff were “brilliant”.

The inspectors also noted in their report that 81 per cent of the respondents to the CQC outpatients survey were satisfied with their overall care. Patients indicated that they had received post-operative information and guidance about their treatment. The inspectors noted that staff liaised with other professionals such as district nurses to ensure that patients received appropriate care in the community after discharge.

The report stated: “The patients said the doctors and nurses explained their medical condition and treatment in a way they understood. Patients told us they felt they were treated with respect and dignity. They told us staff listened to them and answered any questions they had regarding their treatment.”

Patients also told the inspectors that they were extremely satisfied with their care and that their experience of the clinic “was excellent” and they would recommend it to others.

The visit, carried out by two inspectors, involved an inspection of the facilities and equipment for the eye service at Northwick Park, as well as conversations with staff and patients

Moorfields’ director of nursing and allied health professions Tracy Luckett said: “The report highlights a number of positive results for Moorfields about the quality of services we provide. There were very complimentary comments from patients in relation to their care and welfare and the quality of service, as well as about the newly refurbished building. This is a great testament to the hard work of all our staff at Northwick Park. Moorfields is very pleased to get this very positive endorsement from the inspectorate and patients alike.”
