Moorfields appoints new chief clinical information officer

Peter Thomas has been appointed as the new chief clinical information officer (CCIO) at Moorfields Eye Hospital.

Peter will be in charge of raising awareness of clinical informatics as an important element in safe, high quality patient care and liaising with external agencies to promote Moorfields' standing as a digitally enabled trust. He will also support the Moorfields strategy to implement a full electronic medical record in preparation for our move to a new site with Oriel.

One of Peter’s goals in this role is to set up and lead the new department of digital medicine, which will support the digital transformation of clinical services and enable safe and effective use of technologies like artificial intelligence as they transition from research into practice.

Peter commented: “I am delighted to be offered the role of chief clinical information officer at Moorfields and I hope to use this opportunity to use digital medicine in innovative ways to help our patients receive the best care possible.”

Louisa Wickham, medical director, said: "Peter has already made an incredible impact on the trust, pioneering our use of digital medicine and telemedicine. I look forward to seeing how he brings this knowledge and experience to the CCIO role to help provide new solutions to help our patients."

Peter will formally be starting as CCIO at Moorfields from Monday 2 August.
