Moorfields opens new service in Dartford

Moorfields Eye Hospital will open a new eye service at Darent Valley Hospital in Dartford, Kent from Monday September 1 2014.

Patients referred by their local GPs to the new four day a week service will be seen by eyecare specialists who can provide outpatient and surgical treatments for medical and vitreo-retinal conditions, cataracts and children’s eye conditions.

The Moorfields’ multi-disciplinary team is made up of consultants, nurses, orthoptists, optometrists, and managerial and administrative staff.

The team of Moorfields’ consultant ophthalmologists at Dartford are Mr Saab Bhermi, Mr Chien Wong  and paediatric ophthalmologist Mr Rob Henderson supported by orthoptists, optometrists and paediatric nurses.

Declan Flanagan, medical director for Moorfields Eye Hospital, said: “The Moorfields team are delighted to be working in Darent Valley Hospital and with the local community in Dartford, providing patients with a comprehensive range of services to treat a variety of eye conditions, and bringing high-quality eye care closer to their homes and reducing the need for patients to travel.

“We have more than 20 years’ experience in providing care in community locations and other hospitals through our networked satellite model and are looking forward to extending our services to patients in Dartford.

"Patients who are currently under Moorfields’ care at our hospital in City Road  in London will be offered the opportunity to change to our Darent Valley Hospital site if they wish to do so.”

The opening of Moorfields Eye Unit at Darent Valley Hospital brings the number of locations where we provide eye care to 23.
